The guesthouse is very recommendable! The rooms are modern and clean (they even had a good smell) and the hosts were very kind!! The breakfast is sooo delicious and offers all you need. The house is quite near to the beach / Whale Watching point.

"Great Guest House in Hermanus"

The owners and staff gave us a great welcome (with a very nice glass of homemade ice tea) and were very helpful in accommodating us during our short stay, booking us onto a whale watching trip and serving an early breakfast. We stayed in the studio which benefitted from plenty of space and a private balcony.

"One Night Only (Unfortunately)"

It felt like a home away from home. Annamarie and Dave did everything to make you feel right at home. The whale shaped cookies were the best! Annamarie is very hands-on and before we knew it, she made us a reservation at a good restaurant and had recommended which whale cruise to take. Dave treated us to a loverly breakfast in the morning. Such a shame we could not stay longer!

"The best you can get!"

Very nice guesthouse. Friendly people and excellent room and service. Also the breakfast is very good. And that all in the lovely town off Hernamus with his bay with whales. The accommodation is on walking distance of the sea.

"Have Thought of Everything!"

Dave and his wife are living their dream in Hermanus and by running such a superb guest house are helping visitors to South Africa to live their's too. The room we had was, like the service we were given, beyond criticism. The attention to detail was really impressive and matched the welcome we received. Anyone visiting Hermanus can book The Potting Shed with total confidence. Thank you, Dave, for making us so welcome and comfortable.

"Very nice place to stay"

Great location. Very nice hosts. Easy to find. Hermanus is a lovely town particularly during whaling season. Great places to eat and nice shops. Great walk along the cliffs seeing the whales and the views

"Just Lovely"

My daughter and I spent a night at the Potting Shed on a recent trip to South Africa and really loved this wonderful relaxing oasis. Dave and Annamarie are wonderful and friendly, the place was absolutely spotless and beautifully decorated, and the breakfast was the best we had our whole trip. It's a block or two to the cliff walk along the ocean which brings you to the town center in 5 or 10 minutes time. I wish we had more time for all the activities in the area. Highly recommend this one!!!

""Beautiful Romantic Stay - Wish it had of been longer""

My partner and I had a night stay at this beautiful B&B, it was brilliant from start to finish. Upon booking I received an email with a list of activities and discount prices for things in the area- my advice would be to book through The potting shed as I booked mine prior and their rates would have saved me some money!

The room was stunning and it's so close to the town of hermanus it only takes 5mins to walk in- with this said it's still quiet enough that you feel miles away from civilisation. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was delicious! I met both owners who were so welcoming I only wish we had of stayed long. I will be going back on my next trip and intend to stay for much longer! Honestly couldn't fault anything and the value for money was exceptional. Thank you for being so accommodating and well done on creating such a wonderful experience for people, without a doubt the best B&B I have ever stayed in and that's topping all the ones in the UK too!

"Perfect stay for a whale visit in Hermanus"

The owners are gentle people and always working to please the guests. They gave us a warm welcome and tried to arrange the whale trip for us, and the shark cage diving. Their advice for the restaturants was indeed very usefull. Reservations are made for thrips and restaurants.

The rooms ( we booked the standard rooms) are very clean and very good for a short stay. They are rather small, but you should know what you book and we did. For us, parents in one room and two kids in another room, it was very OK.
The breakfast was very tastfull, self made, and we especially enjoyed the pancakes which were served in large numbers. Enough to survive the whole day till dinner in the evening.
The Potting Shed is on a perfect place to walk to town, go for lunch or dinner, go to the sea front and spot the whales, and very close to the main roads to enter or leave Hermanus.
So we recommend The Potting Shed for a pleasant stay in Hermanus.

"Fall asleep at night with the sound of the ocean"

We stayed at the self catering option situated in the Whale Rock estate and absolutely loved it.

The apartment is tastefully decorated, crisp and clean and has everything you could possibly need during your stay and more.

The estate itself is beautifully maintained and we had the Cape sunbirds visit every morning in the garden just outside our door.

Even though there are two units in front of the apartment, they are situated lower down still providing an ocean view. The beach can be reached within 30meters or our front door.

You can smell and hear the ocean from the apartment, amazing to fall asleep at night listening to the waves!

The guest house staff including owners Dave and Annemarie are incredibly professional and helpful and you are treated as friends rather than just visitors.

Loved the whale biscuits and personalised rock candy with the words The Potting shed in the candy!

Thank you the Potting Shed, our 1st time to Hermanus and we loved our stay!

"Breat BnB"

Very nice and cosy bnb. Breakfast was beyond standard, particularly the pancakes with the lemon/passion fruit (?) jam. Room was small but very well heated. Hermanus centre is close, still we went there by car as the way seemed a bit dark, but there was lots of parking available, so no problem at all.

"What a lovely place!"

Everything is there very cordially and with the attention to the detail furnished. The customer is king and the staff and the hosts always give the best to make the stay unforgettable. The highlight is the breakfast, everything is so damn delicious and is self made. Whether bread, jam, peanut butter, etc. All in all a wonderful place.

"Nice catered accommodation with friendly, helpful owners."

Very friendly, helpful people. The room itself was impeccable! Nice residence. The breakfast was also nice and neat. If we ever go back to Hermanus, we would definitely go back to The Potting Shed Accommodation.

"Cozy B&B"

We stayed one night at this b & b. We were received very hospitable and were introduced with all facilities and breakfast. We had a deluxe room with sofa and larger bed. The rooms are big enough and tidy. We can see that the standard rooms are very small. The shower is large but there is little or no aspiration for lasting clammy. The parking lot is pretty tight fit but at least four cars. It is located about 1.2 km from the center. The breakfast was really good and the pancakes + homemade bread and peanut butter were delicious. Upon checking out nicely asked if everything was okay.

"Great Value For Money"

The Potting Shed offers great value for money, its modern, spacious, clean and the beds are very comfy. The breakfast, which includes home made bread, is fantastic. And, to top it all off, we were offered Sri Lankan Tea which my Sri Lankan friend thought was wonderful.

"Super B & B"

We stayed in the loft accomodation which was superb. There is everything you could possibly need. The living area is large, the bathroom has a lovely bath as well as a stand alone shower. Everything is spotlessly clean. There is an outside decking area solely for that room with comfortable seating area as well as sun loungers.
The lovely Doreen met us on our arrival and gave us a very informative and friendly welcome.
The Potting shed is well situated for a short walk into town or to get onto the coastal path.

"A Central Little Gem"

My boyfriend and I checked into the Deluxe Room at the Potting Shed for the Valentine's weekend. Not only was a cherry Doreen ready to greet us warmly with a welcoming iced tea, but we were made to feel welcomed with heart shaped biscuits and a chat about our room (&the town's ) features. The breakfast was hot and home-made bread delicious, our bedroom was an elegant white (walk-in shower with a powerful rose) & the private courtyard a perfect spot to read the morning papers. We walked into town under 10minutes&walked home after supper safely. Be prepared for birdsong from 5 but rollover and enjoy the luxurious bed. Our room was right next to the pool... stunning...but wondered if at another time.. if early morning splashers may have disturbed us. (Worth checking if you plan to have an afternoon nap in the middle of summer.) All in all a great stay where we enjoy private access without feeling like a stat. Thanks Annamarie for all your hand-holding and delicious cooking.

This is an absolutely lovely B&B. It is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, has very comfy beds, powerful showers and great breakfasts. On top of that there is a lounge area and a pool and seating area for guests. We received a friendly welcome from our hosts and a great recommendation from Annamarie for a place to eat. Sadly we only had a one night stop at The Potting Shed en route to Cape Town, but we would certainly stay here again if we are back in Hermanus.

Everything was perfect - the outside patio very private which suited us very much - but the room very hot during the time we were there. The fan supplied did not quite do the trick. The breakfast was wonderful, although we did only have the pancakes (home made) every morning ! They were amazing. The owners were very accommodating and made you feel very welcome and at home. Annemarie & Dave are very welcoming, gracious, friendly & helpful hosts who make you feel like long lost friends! They were kind enough to recommend great eateries in town which they also helped book for us. Annemarie also booked our Whale Boat cruise which was fantastic. Doreen was also very friendly & helpful, as was the other staff we saw daily.

"Warm and friendly hosts"

After a hot sticky drive through countless kilometres of road works it was a welcome oasis to sit in the reception area and sip Annemarie's iced tea. The check in with a member of the team was smooth. Our room was cool and the crisp white linen very inviting. There was a lovely private terrace area complete with table, seating and everything we could want for a barbecue. We were given tips about where to eat, always good on the first night in a new place. During our stay we were visited by friends, they were warmly welcomed too, and Annmarie offerred any additional things we may need to accommodate them if we decided to use the barbecue. I have stayed in many good quality hotels and guest houses but the Potting Shed gets my cleanliness vote, it's absolutely spotless. The only thing I would have liked was bigger/thicker towels, but it's still a 5 star for me. Dave and Annmarie, as Arnie says...I'll be back!

Quaint New England style bungalow 5 mins walk to the centre and beach. Anna Marie far away from her Essex roots, runs a great guesthouse... Rooms are immaculate with a nod to Africa and some great finishing touches of shortbread and Rock. We did a long coastal walk ending up in a beach bar 'dutchies' which she recommended... After thinking we would never get there it was a perfect way to see the sun go down... Great base for a whistle stop tour of the whale town!

"“Romantic get-away for two”"

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, where we were taking around the guest house to see all that was on offer. The room I requested was the room provided and we loved the decor and romantic setting. Each morning we were warmly greeted by the owners who took an interest in what we where going to do. The helped with our booking for the on-off wine tour safari, in which they arranged a pick up from the guest house. Outstanding and clean rooms, and very clean guest house. Absolutely happy with the service and stay - going back to Hermanus, we will only choose The Pottingshed B&B.

"Lovely location"

The Potting Shed is a charming guesthouse with beautifully appointed rooms, a wonderful breakfast, and a fantastic location in Hermanus, in walking distance to town and the cliff walk. The staff were helpful in sharing things to do and making dinner reservations. Nice lounge to sit in as well.

"Great Accommodation"

We were totally satisfied during our one night stay at the Potting Shed. Nice rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast and perfect Location next to the center of Hermanus.

"As good as it gets!"

Second visit to the Potting Shed. Still the same excellent accomodation, wonderful
Breakfasts and warm & friendly hosts, Dave & Anne Marie. Where did she learn to cook? Walking distance to town.
Lovely!

"A Homely Stay"

Dave and Annamarie are great hosts and the Potting Shed is a lovely place. We could choose between scrambled eggs or pancakes (!) for breakfast and the B&B is only a 5 minute walk to the coast line. Although we were a bit off season for the whales, we enjoyed our stay in Hermanus very much.

Joris | From Jeffreys Bay - South Africa (stayed January 2016)

"Honest View"

This was our second visit to The Potting Shed in Hermanus and it was even better than the first. AnnaMarie and Dave run a superb B&B - cannot fault it and I would if I felt it was helpful to potential visitors. If you are looking for first class accomodation close to the centre of town the PS is the place to stay. We will be returning next year but to the self catering appartments a few minutes away because we want to stay a little longer in the lovely whale capital with its wonderful 27 hole golf course.

"“Comfortable stay”"

Potting shed is located in a quiet street within easy and safe walking distance in of the centre of Hermanus. The B@B is run by an English couple who have created a lovely and airy ambience into which they have put much creativity. Our room was on the small side but comfortable and spotlessly clean. There is a small pool to cool yourself down after a long day walking along the beautiful cliffs and seashore. Breakfast was served with lovely little touches - a perfect start to the day. Would certainly recommend

The Potting Shed was a great little place to stay - little touches such as the refreshing iced tea on arrival were great. And the staff were very helpful and friendly suggesting things to do and places to eat.

"“Really enjoyable stay!”"

We stayed in the self-catering units. They were clean, comfortable and close to the beach! Real value for money! I will definitely be back. Hermanus is also such a charming fishing village. Our family had a great stay there! Annamarie and her staff were wonderful and very attentive

Lovely little BnB with clean rooms and bathrooms plus great service. Breakfast was delicious. Easy to walk into town to various restaurants in the evenings. Would recommend and stay again when in Hermanus!

"“Recommended”"

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending The Potting Shed Guest House, and would certainly stay there again. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, well presented and equipped. I found Annamarie, the owner, to be very friendly, welcoming and accommodating - she goes out of her way to make her guests feel comfortable. The homemade muffins, bread and other goodies Annamarie makes for breakfast are delicious and a welcome treat.

"“Another wonderful stay”"

This was our third stay on the Whale Rock Estate and the second staying with the Potting Shed and using one of their self catering apartments. This time we spent a very enjoyable 17 days in the apartment.

We stayed in the same apartment that we had used the previous year and on arrival Dave had made us a lovely loaf of bread and when we entered the apartment a wonderful gift from the Potting Shed was waiting for us and half way through our stay Annamarie had made us some of her tasty lemon curd and more whale cookies and rusks.

Once again the apartment was well equipped, very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Towels were plentiful and these and bed linen were changed every 5 days along with a clean of the apartment. It is a very homely apartment and as on our previous stay we enjoyed using the dining area watching the world go by, listening to the birds, watching the waves and trying to spot a whale or two.

The complex was still immaculate with very friendly staff. On this trip we used the pool on several occasions and enjoyed sitting in the garden by the pool.

Annamarie and Dave are passionate about caring for their guests and making their stay with them enjoyable. Nothing seems too much trouble for them and we have recommended the Potting Shed as a place to stay if you visit Hermanus on our return home to several people who are interested in vsiting the Hermanus area.

Thank you to you and your team for another brilliant stay in Hermanus and possibly we can come back next year and see you all again.

This lovely B&B has obviously been recently renovated with delightful rooms and lovely artwork on the walls. We had a warm welcome on arrival and iced tea, which was a great way to cool down. Breakfast was good with delicious egg muffins.

Fantastic small B&B in this beatiful place. Annamarie is a great host who makes you feel welcome in no time. Lovely breakfast and suburb room with everything available inside. Fresh colours and everything nicely decorated. Great time we have had. Thanks !!

"“Very pleasant stay”"

The Potting Shed is situated in a quit surrounding. It only takes a few minutes to the harbour/boardwalk. The rooms are cosy, comfortable and clean. The pool area is inviting. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast offers everything a South African needs... ;-)

"“Stay at The Potting Shed”"

A great quaint little place to stay over and relax at. We stayed over for the evening after trying to find a place to sleep for the evening, and came across this little place run by Dave and his wife. There's even a small swimming pool to cool down in, and breakfast was wonderful as well.

Getting away from the hustle and bustle, this is a good place to stay at while still close to all the amenities.

"“Warm and welcoming”"

Property was clean and inviting. Close enough for a nice walk into the town center. Breakfast was excellent.
Annamarie and David were very personable and helpful.
We truly enjoyed our stay in Hermanus because of them.

"Top Guesthouse"

It has everything you can ask for a guesthouse. Rooms that are clean, with a good bed and shower. Friendly service, very good advise about spots and restaurants to visit and the breakfast is really top! The guesthouse is on walking distance from the beach and centre. No critical points at all? Yes, a bit more space in the rooms would improve the stay. However, it is a top guesthouse we would warmly recommend. Haye Galama (Netherlands)

"“Annamarie saved our day!”"

We stayed only one night at the Potting Shed. The B&B was very nice decorated and clean. The rooms are small but don't lack in comfort. The location is a nice (and safe) 30 min walk from the center. Breakfast was really nice, everything made fresh at the moment. You start with a fruit salad and afterwards you can choose between pancakes and eggs. On the counter there's bread, yoghurt, jams, cornflakes, ... Really nice.
But what I'll remember most, is how Annamarie saved our trip. We came to Hermanus to see whales and sharks. The day we arrived, our whale tour got cancelled. Then the next day, the same for the shark cage diving. Even though all the tours were fully booked, Annemarie started calling around to get us a place on a whale tour and... she managed to do so. We ended up seeing a mother whale and her calf and are really gratefull for that. Annemarie: a big thank you for your help that day!

"“Wonderful spot!”"

Lovely fresh and clean self catering apartment! Secure location and free WiFi lovely views of the ocean and great to hear the sound of the ocean when you wake up every morning! Would be ideal for a family as it is a quiet secure location and the pool is not easily accessible to little children! Highly recommended

"Perfect"

The best accomondation we had of the whole trip! Every little detail ist perfect and made with love. The first time that you can heat the room really warm. The seafront is easily reach on foot. The Internet works fast and gut. I rate five of five stars.

Parkausweis | From Augsburg, Germany (Stayed 2015)

"Home from home"

Right from the very start Dave and Annemarrie were fantastic hosts. The weather had been a little windy and our shark diving trips had cancelled on us but Dave came to the rescue and organised a fantastic trip for us on one of the larger boats he knew about, in fact it was one of just two that sailed the day we went! They were so busy when we booked so we couldn’t have the same room for three nights but both the deluxe and regular rooms were gorgeous and very comfortable (loved the hot water bottles!) The breakfast was excellent and I would recommend the pancakes. We enjoyed the opportunity of having a BBQ in the private garden area of the deluxe room. A very happy and welcoming place to stay where the owners and staff really work to make you feel at home.

The Potting Shed had a central location to explore Hermanus with easy access to the cliff walk. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is perfect. Definitely one of the best places to stay in Hermanus!

"Quintessentially British charm"

This is a terrific B&B which really nails the British charm element. Luckily, it also nails all of the other elements, making it a wonderful place to stay. The breakfast is scrumptious and the beds are ridiculously comfortable. Do not pass this one by!

"Marvellous Hotel"

We stayed at the Potting shed and found it marvellous to stay in spotlessly clean and lovely couple who run it had a great time and will go when we go to Africa again which is about every six months, food was really good, recomend the food as well, and the service was exceptional, the owners I think were Annamarie and David. who’s hospitality was exceptional. Also the staff were exceptional

"Such Friendly Staff"

For a relaxing stay that is close to all amenities, choose The Potting Shed. My partner and I where here for only 1 night, but wish we could have stayed longer.

The staff and owners are extremely friendly and the rooms are a delight. There is a lot of attention to detail in the room that we stayed at: The loft. The loft has its own balcony with a gas braai and some loungers. I would recommend this room.

The breakfast was also amazing.

"Lovely peaceful location, but close to town centre"

We loved our stay at The Potting Shed - friendly English ex-pat owners and management team, recently refurbished rooms were so comfortable (we stayed in the deluxe room, #4 ) and pretty and the location is peaceful but well placed for activities... plus BEST breakfast we had during our South Africa trip!!

Highly recommended

"Highly recommend after a perfect stay at The Potting Shed!"

The Potting Shed was the perfect place for our stay in South Africa - from the accommodation itself (especially the cleanliness, decor and huge beds!), to the ideal location and welcoming hosts. It was such a lovely place to stay and we can`t thank Annamarie and Dave enough for giving us such a warm welcome to Hermanus! Would highly recommend The Potting Shed and look forward to returning there whenever I find myself in South Africa again.

"Holiday of a life time"

We stayed at the Potting Shed for two nights. What a little gem, all bedrooms tastefully furnished with lots of little extras. Ann-Marie and David were so welcoming. Gave us recommendations for dinner, which we used - and was fantastic. Also booked a wine tour for us, equally good. Nothing was too much trouble. Decided to do a "braai" on one night. Sitting by the pool with the sun setting and the birds tweeting. I would definately stay again if I find myself in lovely Hermanus. One to recommend.

"Fabulous start to our first holiday in South Africa"

We had the perfect start to our holiday. The Potting Shed is charming and Annamarie, Dave, and all the other staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. The room was lovely, clean, bright, spacious and modern. The bed was huge and very comfy. Our bathroom was very nice with a large walk-in shower. Breakfast was also excellent. It`s location is great as you are only about 5 minutes from downtown with all its lovely restaurants, shops etc. We also felt it was fantastic value. We can’t wait for our next visit. We will definitely be back, thank you Annamarie and Dave.

"Self catering apartment"

Very comfy apartment with stunning views of the sea. Safe environment. Good wifi. Unfortunatley our mobile was out of order, so we felt a bit cut off, no phones in the room or on the complex. If you want peace & relaxation this is perfect location. You have to drive to the town for shops, restaurants & walks.

"Lovely, romantic rooms and friendly staff!"

We loved our room that much, we actually spend a lot of time inside. We stayed in one of the bigger suites in the back with a living room area and a private terrasse with braai equipment for a nice barbecue. The friendly service and breakfast made it a perfect choice. The location is nicely close to the coast but still quiet.

"Peaceful Night at Potting Shed"

We stayed at the Potting Shed Accommodation for one night during a two week trip to South Africa. What a beautiful place with truly wonderful hosts! We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. Our room was perfect and even had homemade cookies waiting for us on the bed. The breakfast was great and I appreciated the homemade bread and other baked items. I hope to go back and visit again sometime in the future.

Thank you for everything!

"Perfect in every way"

We stayed at the Potting shed for one night at the end of whale watching season, the Potting Shed more than lived up to its reputation after the reviews that we had read about it, the owners certainly know what people expect from a guest house and we would stay there again next time we are in Hermanus

"Great B&B in Hermanus"

We stayed at The Potting Shed for 2 nights. The room was really comfortable and the breakfasts were really great! We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The location was great - walking distance to the cliff hikes and into town.

"Feeling at home on holiday"

We stayed 3 nights at the studio appartment of the Potting Shed during our honeymoon through South Africa. The appartment has everything one can wish for in a holliday appartment. The private terrace is excellent for lounging after daytrips in and around Hermanus. It even has a private braai. The owners are really friendly and helpfull in planning trips and providing information about the area. The breakfast is excellent especially Dave's homemade bread. Within a vife minute walk you reach the cliff path leading to the center of Hermanus from which you can spot whales. The center of Hermanus takes you 15 minutes on foot. Hermanus to us was save to walk around after dark. We had a very nice stay.

"Whale watching"

................ Nice and clean building, good breakfast, good service. The only drawback not to be on the cliff and not to see the Ocean. In hermanus I suggest to book some sea view room. It has to be wonderful.......

Franco G | From Ravenna

"Wished we were staying longer!"

Lucky to be staying in one of their deluxe rooms (standards were fully booked) so we had an amazing place to stay - biggest bed ever and a little sofa area, then the bathroom with huge walk in shower space. And a little patio outside. All very prettily decorated.

Location is good - a little out of the main town so peaceful but within a short walk of plenty of shops and restaurants and of course the coastline for the whale watching. The owner gave us a very friendly welcome and a little map of the town with lots of advice on where best to see the whales and where to eat etc. Breakfast was delicious - all the usual fayre on offer with either traditional cooked or pancakes if you want something hot.

This B&B is very well run business by a very nice couple. The owners and the staff is very helpfull, the rooms are cozy, comfortable and very clean and the breakfast is very good as well. Location is OK, but it’s a walking distance to the town, so it's not a problem really. I recommend the place for a night or weekend in Hermanus

"Whales world"

Accomodation : appartment close to the new Harbour, in front of the sea.

The appartment is located inside a private property. It is new, clean, confortable, full equiped kitchen, 2 rooms, luxury bathroom.

We loved our 2 nights in this place.
Close to the center and closer to the boats to watch whales.

Hermanus is a little paradise and this appartment is up to it.

The appartment is not directly in front of the sea (just a line of house between it and the sea ). The wifi is available, some cuts but nothing disturbing
